Courtney A. Hogarth
Artist Biography
Courtney A. Hogarth is a multi-faceted artist, poet, author and Senior Lecturer on Chinese Culture at The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus.
He holds a doctoral degree in Classical Chinese Painting from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, China, where he focused on the Language of Classical Chinese Painting, Chinese Calligraphy and Chinese Philosophy.
Hogarth’s paintings have been exhibited at the China National Art Museum, the National Gallery of Jamaica, the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Universidad de los Andes, Colombia, the Xianghu Art Museum, Hangzhou, and the Grosvenor, Revolution and Olympia Galleries, in Kingston. He was a specially invited artist for the inaugural exhibition of the Sunshine Museum in Beijing. During the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he was also invited to show at the China National Exhibition Centre.
His paintings, drawings, poems, essays and academic writing have been published in Jamaica and overseas, in magazines, catalogues and journals, as well as online. Hogarth has lectured and presented papers at several conferences in Jamaica, Cuba, Cyprus, Colombia, Japan, China and the United Kingdom. He is the author of two books – Dewdrop (2016), a volume of poetry and art and Hogarth – In Line and Colour (2019).
